James Whitfield is a lighting designer and the resident designer for Ardenwood Dance. His designs have lit new work for Giordano Dance Chicago, regional opera, and a dozen premieres on the Ardenwood Mainstage. James is drawn to the way a single shaft of light can turn an empty stage into a room with weather. He holds an MFA in design from Northwestern and teaches the stagecraft sequence.
